Dark circles under the eye are one of the most common problems across the globe. It is also a problem that often affects both the young and the old. The good news is that there are plenty of homemade remedies and easy ways to get rid of dark circles. Dark circles can appear due to various reasons. Some of the most common reasons for dark circles include general neglect of skin health, aging, stress and at times even genetic reasons as well.

More often than not dark circles are found in women than in men though men also do report cases of dark circles under the eye.

Why Do Dark Circles Appear ?

Research suggests that the genes that you inherit have a lot to do with the dark circles. So for example, if one gets fair or thin skins by birth, it is more likely to give you dark circles. On the other hand, the natural cause of dark circles is progressive age. Scientifically it has been proven that with age, collagen, a pigment of skin keeps reducing resulting in thinning of skin. As a result veins show through more prominently resulting in dark circles.

Some other common causes of dark circles include excessive alcohol consumption, seasonal disease, drugs and lack of sleep. Often excessive stress or tired and sore eyes can also lead to dark circles. In some cases, sensitivity to certain chemicals used in cosmetics can also lead to dark circles.

Easy Cures For Dark Circles:

A nutritious and balanced diet is the first and easiest way to ensure that dark circles under the eye do not appear. A healthy diet should include plenty of water, fresh fruits, salads, yoghurt, sprouts and cereals, cottage cheese, skimmed milk and beans.

In case you are already affected by dark circles, some common remedies include:

Regular use of under eye cream which has sufficient quantity of almond. Other most common method of reducing dark circles is regular washing of the eye with cold and warm water alternately. This helps in soothing the nerves and thus removes the dark circles.

If you are required to use make up on a regular basis, make sure that you remove all make up before going to bed at night and then thoroughly wash your face and eyes with cold and warm water. This will help in improving the blood circulation and thus reduce the dark circles.

Applying cucumber juice for about 10 – 15 minutes and then washing the face with plain water is also a good natural cure for dark circles as it helps in reducing eye stress.

Similarly applying a mixture of potato juice with cucumber juice is equally effective in treating puffiness of eye. Other commonly used methods include cooled tea bags under the eye and drinking tomato juice with a few mint leaves on a regular basis. Both help in soothing the areas under the eye. However, caution has to be exercised so that these do not enter the eye.
